This summer, popular and internationally award-winning mobile application Zagreb Be There has been updated with two new routes: Arty Zagreb and New Zagreb. Also, the existing routes have been enriched with some new content. The app suggests different sightseeing routes with some lesser-known but interesting places and also includes deals and discounts.
The new Arty Zagreb route was created by artists. Film director Dalibor Matanić, who won the Golden Palm at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, recommended the railway crossing in Trešnjevka, which was one of the filming locations for his film Fine Dead Girls. The artist Zlatan Vehabović recommended the Student Centre complex, and the street artist OKO included the nearby Krivi put (The Wrong Way), a popular bar and beer garden on Savska Street.
Other curators include singer Ida Prester who recommended Booksa book club; designers Ira Payer and Tamara Ivić recommended Croatian Design Superstore and Street Closet (Ulični ormar); actress Hrvojka Begović recommended Preradovićeva street and the CFSN DJ collective recommend the Swanky Monkey garden bar.
The New Zagreb route introduces tourists to the Zagreb on the other side of Sava River – the working-class heart of the city built during socialism. The sights include the must-see Museum of Contemporary Art and the mammoth residential building Mamutica where about 5000 people live. There is also the flea market Hrelić, the Museum of Street Art in Siget and several other locations.
The other routes include Space Explorer that connects the locations of the ‘grounded’ solar system planets that make up the art installation by Ivan Kožarić and Davor Preis. The Hidden Spots route leads to the only remaining well in the Upper Town or to the Mushroom Museum. The Indie Zagreb route includes the must-see Museum of Broken Relationships. There are also Classic Zagreb and Refreshing Zagreb.
The app is available for Android devices and iPhones and can be downloaded from the microsite betherezagreb.com. The project was created in collaboration between the Zagreb Tourist Board and advertising agencies Bruketa&Žinić OM and Brlog.
