The PechaKucha Night Zagreb Vol.12 was held on April 12 in a packed ZeKaem (Zagreb Youth Theatre). The event was organized by the agency Bruketa&Žinić OM, together with Lana Cavar, 3LHD and Komakino. Different artists and activists tried out the well known form of time-limited 20-images-in-20-seconds presentations.
Let us remind you that the PechaKucha Nights Zagreb have been held since 2009, and Zagreb is just one of 500 cities where local teams organize their own versions of PechaKucha Night.
Here is the review published on T-portal:
Along with the witty hosts, the ZeKaeM ensemble actors Nina Violić and Vedran Živolić, the evening was kicked off by president of the Cyclists’ Union Marko Gregović, who pointed out the paradox of Zagreb as one of the most naturally suited cycling cities, but that today’s traffic conditions have made cycling impossible. Writer and dramaturge Goran Ferčec, also one of the founders of the Dramaturgy collective for the affirmation of the contemporary drama of young and unknown authors, presented himself with a reading of his drama text.
David Lušić from the initiative Zebra spoke of the very lively and interesting new artistic space in Zagreb, the Greta Gallery, where the very term of contemporary gallery is questioned by leaving this up to the artists themselves, rather than the curators. Multimedia artist Marijan Crtalić spoke of several of his projects from his opus “Invisible Sisak”, like the exhibition “The present of the past” where he juxtaposed images of the Sisak Ironworks with photo-editing.
Curator Koraljka Vlajo gave an interesting comparison of the design heritage of the companies Jugokeramika and Končar through the eyes of gender, pointing out the high quality and modernity of their products. Architect Luciano Basauri from the Analog architecture team spoke about the influence tourism has on urbanism and architecture development, while famous photographer and graphic designer Igor Kuduz held a humorous presentation about spam e-mails and his “Photo-spam” project.
Documentary film director Dana Budisavljević talked about the making of some of her films, like her newest, award winning “Family Meals”, naming her approach “organic movie production”. Young artist Romina Mejak described her unusual approach to body decoration, or jewellery, and Dunja Janković, independent comic strip writer ended the program with a multi-vocal performance, which was rewarded with an audience ovation.
The usual PechaKucha party followed the presentations, this time featuring DMSR DJs Labosh & Qwerty. On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to thank the Zagreb Youth Theatre, Zagreb City Office for Education, Culture and Sport, and our permanent PechaKucha partner, AVC Zagreb. Until our next chit-chat!
