The wine with the smallest label in the world is the best designed packaging in central and eastern Europe

Golden Drum award for B&Ž and Brandoctor

The prizes for marketing communications projects from central and eastern Europe were awarded on October 21st at the international festival of creativity Golden Drum in Ljubljana. Bruketa&Žinić OM won the main Golden Drum prize in the mass products packaging design for their work The label of a frugal man, created in collaboration with Brandoctor for the Brač wine producer Jako vino and its brand Vina Brač.

People from the island of Brač have a reputation for being on the stingy side, but it was Brač’s poor, arid soil that taught them to be humble and to never waste a thing. This is why the Vina Brač 1903 label just might be the smallest in the world. They believe that big wines do not need big labels, hence the slogan: Poor in soil, generous in spirit.

The Bruketa&Žinić team has been winning international prizes for its work for years. For their work with the Brač winery Jako vino, in collaboration with Brandoctor, they have won prizes in some of the leading international competitions, such as Design Week London, D&AD, Art Directors Club New York, and European Design Awards, and the reputable magazine Lürzer’s Archive put them on their list of 200 of the world’s best packaging designers last year. Their packaging solutions also won awards at the competitions Red Dot, Pentawards, and Dieline, up against the world’s toughest competition.

At this year’s Golden Drum, 22 international jury members evaluated 1,215 market communications projects from 26 countries. The Best Piece category jury, in which The label of a frugal man was competing, was presided by Graham Lang, the Chief Creative Director of the Y&R for Africa and one of the most awarded designers who has worked for many eminent advertisers on all continents. As the organizers put it, Best Piece Section is intended for stand-alone work whose concept, effective use of communication channels and professional execution appeals to users.

The international festival of creativity Golden Drum is the biggest and the most important event in the communications industry in the Adriatic region and has been taking place for the past 23 years, organized by the Slovenian Advertising Chamber.
