The performance “Fathers and sons” by the authors Ksenija Zec and Saša Božić, produced by the Exit Theatre, deals with neglected but again socially very present issues of male heritage, symbolically questioning the father-son relationship.
This relationship is often incomplete, unverbalized; instead of a clearly pronounced resolution of the intergenerational conflict “fathers often leave to their sons only objects of some kind – father’s watch, father’s gun, a diary…”.*
The solution uses a recognizable optical illusion communicating the father-son relationship. In the forefront we see the symbol of an inherited object, a damaged and clumsily repaired vase alluding to an unresolved conflict, a communication crack standing between two silhouettes – that of the father and the son.
