In the Business Graphics, a book published by the American Rockport in 2007, among 500 designer projects from all over the world there were also 10 of ours. The book of Steven Liske focuses on the examples of design for business, i.e. commercial purposes. This is the first book in the last 10 years that focuses strictly on the relation between the design and the world of business.
The Rockport Publishers is a publishing houses specialized for graphic design, architecture, interiors, films and photography. The author of the book, Steven Liska, is the founder of the Liska + Associates Company, specialized for communicational design, with offices in Chicago and New York.
Liska states that graphic designers develop visual and verbal systems which help companies identify, explain and communicate who they are, why they are different from others and why clients should opt for their products or services. He states that good designer solutions bring memorable visual projection of key company values, by bringing out the primary voice through which the company communicates.
He also claims that essential and starting points when creating graphic design for companies are strategic thinking and creative discipline, and that only after a critical analysis can a designer create solutions which communicate the essence of the company and its characteristics.
The projects published in the book are: the visual identities for the Czech chemical company Lachner and The Fifth Gymnasium in Zagreb; the invitations for Ribarić d.o.o., and the annual report Feed me and The calendar with a heart for Podravka. Among projects of the sister agency Brandoctor, the published ones were: the visual identities for Tekstilpromet and the Ćernelić business interiors, and their own curative business cards and medical prescriptions.
